If riding doesn’t feel the same anymore, you’re not imagining it.
For a lot of riders, confidence doesn’t just disappear overnight.
Something shifts.
It might have been a fall.
A moment that shook you.
Or a gradual build-up over time where things just stopped feeling as easy.
At some point, riding stopped feeling completely safe.
And when that happens, your mind does exactly what it’s designed to do —
it steps in to protect you.
You might notice it in different ways.
Second-guessing yourself more than you used to.
Feeling tense before you even get on.
Overthinking things that used to feel automatic.
Or avoiding situations you’d normally be fine with.
From the outside, everything might look the same.
But inside, it feels very different.
This isn’t a lack of ability.
And it’s not you “losing it”.
It’s a response.
Your mind has learned that something might not be safe —
and it’s trying to keep you out of danger.
The problem is, once that response is there,
it doesn’t just switch off because you tell yourself to be confident.
You can push through it for a while…
but it tends to keep coming back.
The good news is, it can be changed.
Not by forcing confidence,
but by working with what’s going on underneath it.
When you understand the response and shift it properly,
things start to feel different again.
Calmer.
More in control.
More like you.
If this is something you’re dealing with,
you’re not alone — and you’re not stuck like this.
If riding confidence has started to feel different lately, you’re not alone.
